Change of Pace

Comedy Series  ·  Chicago & Los Angeles
📍 Chicago CME / Serenity Lodge, Malibu  ·  Present day

A high-octane Chicago commodities trader collapses on the trading floor — and her literal heart, narrating in the voice of Wanda Sykes, has been trying to tell her this was coming for thirty years. Forced into a Malibu wellness retreat, Audrey Pace attacks healing like a new account to close. The bead-collecting, spirit-animal-discovering, noble-silence-observing retreat has other ideas.

About This Series

Change of Pace opens on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange — the loudest, fastest, most testosterone-soaked room in America. And right in the middle of it: Audrey Pace (29), in a bright red trading jacket and matching five-inch pumps, elbowing her way through a sea of traders with the precision of a surgeon and the volume of a freight train. She is brilliant, relentless, and completely unaware that her heart — literally — has been trying to get her attention for years.

When Audrey collapses on the trading floor and wakes up in a cardiac unit, her cardiologist delivers the verdict: slow down or face surgery. HR delivers the follow-up: thirty days at a pre-approved rehab facility. Audrey delivers her counter-offer: the one in Malibu — Serenity Lodge. She figures she can collect thirty wellness beads in thirty days and be back at her desk before her rival Jeffrey steals her biggest account.

Serenity Lodge is everything Audrey is not — unhurried, bead-collecting, spirit-animal-discovering, noble-silence-observing. She attacks it like a new account to close. She color-codes her bead spreadsheet. She reprograms the room AI to read her commodities futures. She sneaks off-campus in an Uber driven by the infuriatingly patient Pete. She loses beads for accidentally killing a butterfly. She makes a connection she didn't plan for, receives a letter from her dead father she wasn't ready for, and passes out on the lobby floor a second time.

The show's secret weapon is its narrator: Cora, Audrey's literal heart — voiced in the style of Wanda Sykes — a long-suffering witness to thirty years of Audrey's choices. Cora is joined by Vennie (left ventricle, think Dennis Leary), who cheers every reckless decision and recoils from every genuine feeling. Together they turn Audrey's inner world into the funniest room on screen.

The Characters

Audrey Pace
Protagonist · Age 29
Chicago commodities trader. Red jacket, red heels, zero idle time. Her drive is real — so is the anxiety underneath it. Wears her late father's ambition like armor and hasn't taken it off since he died.
Cora
Narrator · Audrey's Heart
Not a metaphor — Cora is Audrey's literal heart, narrating in real time. Wanda Sykes energy. Thirty years of keeping Audrey alive. Completely exhausted. Not done yet.
Vennie
Narrator · Left Ventricle
Dennis Leary energy. Loves adrenaline, hates feelings, cheers every reckless choice. Terrified of what happens if Audrey actually slows down.
Pete
Uber Driver · Love Interest
28. Chill California guy with gummies, patience, and the unsettling ability to not be in a hurry about anything — including her. Keeps showing up.
Dr. Saresh
Serenity Lodge Director
Cardiologist-astrologer. Man-bun. Genuinely spiritual and completely immune to Audrey's negotiating tactics. He controls the beads. This makes him the most powerful person in her life.
Yolanda
Fellow Patient · Unlikely Mentor
60s. Old hippie, still a beauty, four months in and counting. Has had her beads revoked three times. She is the person Audrey will become — if she's lucky enough to let it happen.
Talon Pace
Audrey's Mother
Late 50s. Narcissistic, well-dressed, genuinely loving in the most counterproductive way possible. The only thing that makes Audrey's heart monitor beep louder than a sprint interval.
Ben Pace
Half-Brother
19. Bleach-blond, tattooed, drums at Venice Beach. Holding a sealed letter from their dead father that Audrey hasn't earned yet. The reason she sneaks off campus.
