About This Script

Via Dell’Amore is a travel romantic comedy set across the Tuscan and Umbrian countryside. Nando, a buttoned-up Manhattan wealth manager, flies to Italy to ride La Dolce Vita — a real antique bike race finishing in the medieval hilltop city of Cortona — in place of his ailing Uncle Aldo. Within hours of landing, his rental car and race bike are stolen, his phone and wallet gone with them, and he is left on a dusty Italian roadside with nothing but a mangled bicycle and a map he can’t read.

Enter Angelica, 24 — a natural beauty with sharp instincts, a gift for survival, and a secret entry ticket to a gaming competition in Brooklyn that represents her only way out of the life that controls her. She hops on the back of Nando’s tandem and the deal is struck: she gets him to Cortona, he gets her to America. What follows is four days of wrong turns, crop-field detours, midnight campfires, stolen fruit, nuns on stripper heels, a dog with a loaf of bread, and a card game that reveals more than either of them intended.

Think Pretty Woman meets Under the Tuscan Sun meets Eat Pray Love — a road trip about a man who gave up on joy, guided by a woman who never stopped believing in it.

The Inspiration

“My husband Damiano and I met bike riding — we’ve cycled across the world together, including La Dolce Vita, an antique bike race through Tuscany finishing on a twelve-kilometer straight climb into Cortona. On our way to the race, leaving the Rome airport for the first time in my life, I was stunned to see the Strada Bonifica — the Road of Love. I mixed these two real experiences together. This is that story.” — Gilda Hauser Porcari, Writer

Theme

“Destiny is a choice. You can follow the path or you can let it pass. It’s never too late to get on the bike.”

The Characters

Nando
Protagonist
A Brooklyn-Italian kid who abandoned his roots, his joy, and his identity after his father’s death. Traded the bike for a briefcase. Forty-eight hours in Tuscany with a tandem bicycle will undo twenty years of careful suppression.
Angelica, 24
Love Interest
Streetwise, fearless, funny, and completely authentic. Steals things when she has to, speaks the truth when it hurts, wins every card game, and punches the villain unconscious using a WWII Panerai watch and a Casino Royale reference.
Uncle Aldo
Supporting
The ghost of the life Nando abandoned. Shows up at the finish line in a bike jersey four sizes too small. The heart of the film.
Sister Francesca & The Nuns
Recurring Comedy
Give Nando a tandem bicycle, trade heels with Angelica, carry a stolen cell phone inside a convent organ, and settle the final fight with a statue of St. Rocco. They are not subtle.

Why It Sells

  • Italy is a proven box office asset — international co-production potential with built-in scenic appeal
  • Forced proximity road-trip structure is the most reliably commercial romantic comedy engine
  • Based on a real bike race and a real Italian road — authentic world-building that differentiates it from generic Euro rom-coms
  • Strong female lead with agency throughout — Angelica drives the story as much as Nando
